Good oral hygiene is critical to a successful orthodontic result!
When the braces are placed, we will take the time to show each patient and parent how to properly brush and floss around the braces. Proper brushing and flossing will keep the teeth, gums, and surrounding bones healthy and fit. Studies have shown that proper oral hygiene can actually make the teeth move faster.
At each appointment, the first thing we do is check oral hygiene. If hygiene is good, then we proceed to the orthodontic adjustment planned for that appointment. If hygiene is not good, we will stop any orthodontic correction and work on brushing and flossing techniques.
Each week we have a Good Oral Hygiene Contest. If a patient shows good oral hygiene at their appointment, their name is dropped into the contest box. Winners are chosen on a weekly and monthly basis.
